Promoting and Expanding Nurses' Rights
During my last semester in Auburn's Nursing School, I received first hand experience of the power nurses hold in the political decision making process. The sheer number of currently practicing nurses heavily influences health care policy formation. The large volume of nursing opinion allows for the implementation of effective quality improvement and safety measure initiatives in the political arena. Health care policy formation on the local, national, and global scale relies on extensive nursing clinical expertise due to the ambiguity and unpredictability of complex factors that affect health care.
I was also fortunate to participate in the coordination of the Fall 2016 Auburn University Nursing School admission interview process. It felt empowering to provide comfort and care and promote independence to students whose future is uncertain. The volunteer opportunity allowed me to reflect on the personal growth and development I have gained throughout my time in Auburn's Nursing School.
